GAS-J

Group A streptococci (GAS) cause a variety of infectious diseases. Among them, fulminant streptococcal infection (STSS) is a disease with an extremely poor prognosis, with a mortality rate of 30% or more. The number of occurrences is increasing. Based on the whole genome data of GAS, this online analysis system enables emm typing, MLST typing, virulence factor search, and molecular phylogenetic tree analysis with selecting specific strains. This system only handles strains that strictly meet Japanese STSS case diagnostic criteria as STSS strains.

introduction

The whole genome information of streptococci was put into a database by adding original virulence factor information. We constructed a database (named GAS-J) that includes information on over 10,000 types of virulence factors, which enables comparison of whole genome information of strains derived from streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS) cases and strains derived from non-STSS cases as the control. Since the definition of STSS varies depending on the country and research, only Japanese isolates, for which diagnostic criteria have been clarified are used, and registration in the database will be done by a curator. The system was designed so that strains that do not meet the requirements are not registered. Registration of strains in the database has been done and 406 isolates since 2011 are in the database for now. The strain data could be used for comparison with user's strains.
